I happened across an article written by Pastor Brian from Hillsong Church. You can find that article here: http://hillsong.com/media/statement-re-recent-media-comments-on-homosexuality
In the article, he attempts to clarify a statement he made earlier regarding his stand on gay marriage. Pastor Brian begins by saying, “My personal view on the subject of homosexuality would line up with most traditionally held Christian views. I believe the writings of Paul are clear on this subject.”
Notice that he doesn’t come straight out and say it. Although most would know what he meant, he didn’t clarify exactly what traditional beliefs are. Nor did he clarify what Paul said on the subject. He beats around the bush by covering up his believes with illusive references, as opposed to just coming out and saying exactly what he believes.
To make matters worse, he makes a blatantly false (albeit popular) statement. He said: “I made the point that public statements condemning people will place a barrier between the church and the world (and I note that Jesus came to save and not to condemn)”
This is blatantly false. Jesus, Himself, made a lot of public statements condemning people. Jesus not only publicly condemned individuals, but groups of individuals (like the Pharisees and Sadducees) and even entire cities! Jesus was NOT concerned about “turning people off”. He spoke the truth. He said it like it is. It was either you were offended at Him, as most were. Or you humble accepted His hard words.
Jesus wasn’t “nice”. Nice guys don’t get crucified.
That is just the plain truth about how Jesus interacted with the world.
